We are delighted that award-winning landscape and garden designer Paul Martin will be returning to Kwendalo and hosting a talk for nature and gardening enthusiasts on the 20th September 2023 on his Inspiration & Dreams for Kwendalo’s Gardens.
Martin has been working with Kwendalo for over three years on the design and development of our gardens, including the chakra and medicinal herb gardens, providing insightful support and guidance as we continue to grow and evolve. He is dedicated to using his wealth of knowledge about plants and deep understanding of habitat conservation to create exterior spaces that combine a myriad of influences and design elements with proportion, mystery and planting at the heart of his designs. Paul Martin Landscape and Garden Designs was the first ever recipient of the BBC People’s Choice Awards at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show.
Martin’s talk – which will be held at Kwendalo’s Harmony Centre – is aimed at both amateur and professional gardeners who are enthusiastic about creating green spaces that are regenerative, indigenous and harmonious with their surroundings. The presentation will begin with a complimentary garden walk, and elixir and snacks in the Green Cafe after which there will be a 40-minute talk by Paul followed by a Q & A session.

All proceeds support The Harmony Project which is being implemented by the Kwendalo Institute at the Bahia Formosa School, Plettenberg Bay.

ABOUT PAUL MARTIN
Paul Martin graduated from the College of Amenity Horticulture located in the National Botanic Gardens, Dublin, in 1986. Having spent the majority of the course training alongside skilled horticulturalists specialising in plant physiology, Martin established himself as an innovator in landscaping. With 11 gold medals for show gardens to date, he is regarded as one of Ireland’s leading garden designers.
In 1989, he founded a studio to combine expertise in horticulture with high-technical skill in design implementation. Working with clients internationally, Paul Martin Landscape and Garden Design has since completed large-scale urban design and landscaping, state commissions and show gardens. His portfolio also includes commercial landscaping for hotels and resorts, rural country estates and private residential gardens.
Over the past two decades, Paul Martin Landscape and Garden Design has received 11 gold awards and three Best-in-Show awards for show gardens. He has returned to South Africa, and Plettenberg Bay, on a number of occasions to visit Kwendalo Gardens, offering expert guidance to the team on the estate and helping to shape our gardens into what we hope, in time, will become some of the most beautiful and inspiring in South Africa.
